Elementary Class
(6-12 years)
To reflect, delve deeper and develop one's critical thinking skills.
The Elementary Class at Montessori 101 welcomes children aged 6 to 12, from first to fifth grade, in an environment designed to foster independence, critical thinking, and self-confidence.
At this key stage of their education, children consolidate their fundamental knowledge while developing essential skills for their future. The objective is clear: to nurture curious, responsible children who are capable of thinking for themselves.
Montessori education focused on understanding
Unlike traditional teaching methods that emphasize memorization, Montessori education in the Elementary Class encourages children to understand, analyze, and reason.
Students are encouraged to:
- Think rather than memorize
- Rephrase instructions
- Find solutions independently
- Develop logical thinking
They learn how to “learn how to learn,” a key skill that will support them throughout their academic and personal lives.
A stimulating and collaborative environment
The Elementary Class is based on a specific structure that promotes both independence and collaboration:
- Alternating between individual work and group work
- Multi-age classrooms that encourage peer support and leadership
- Development of essential social skills (listening, patience, cooperation)
This approach allows each child to progress at their own pace while benefiting from group dynamics. Children gradually move from being among the youngest to becoming more experienced, strengthening their confidence and sense of responsibility.
An enhanced bilingual learning environment
In continuity with previous levels, the Elementary Class offers a reinforced French-English bilingual environment.
Each class is supervised by two educators:
- One who speaks exclusively in French
- One who speaks exclusively in English
Children develop not only their speaking skills but also their written proficiency in English. The school also prepares students for recognized certifications such as Cambridge English, a valuable asset for their academic journey.
Educational continuity through middle school
The program meets national education requirements while integrating Montessori principles. As a result, students acquire solid knowledge, often exceeding expected standards.
Each semester, families receive a detailed progress report along with recommendations to support the transition to middle school, whether public or private.
A schedule adapted to children’s rhythm
The Elementary Class is open on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm.
Morning drop-off is until 8:45 am, and pick-up starts at 4:15 pm. The school is closed on weekends and during school holidays.
Each day is structured to balance learning, reflection time, group activities, and breaks.
